Settlement Times Have Improved. The Bottleneck Moved.
Instant payment schemes changed where the delay sits in a crypto to fiat conversion. What is now fast and what still is not.

Converting crypto to fiat used to take days, and most of that was the bank transfer at the end. Instant payment schemes changed that, and the remaining delays are somewhere else now. The change is easiest to see against a provider that has implemented it, and a platform built to convert crypto to fiat publishes what it is now bound by.
What is now fast
Euro settlement within the instant payment scheme arrives in seconds, including outside business hours. Providers connected to it can pay out on a Sunday evening.
This removed the largest single delay in the process for European settlement.
What is still slow
Cross-currency settlement. If the sale is in one currency and your account is in another, a conversion happens and the international rail reappears. One to four business days, plus a margin.
Settlement outside the instant scheme. Not every bank participates and not every provider connects. Standard transfers still follow cut-off times and business days.
The first payout to a new account. Additional verification regardless of the rail. One to three days, once.
Compliance holds. Unchanged by any payment scheme, and now the largest remaining source of delay.
Where the bottleneck actually sits now
For a verified account settling in its own currency to an established bank account, the process is minutes end to end.
For everything else, the delay is either currency conversion or a review. Both are avoidable in advance: match the settlement currency to the account currency, and complete verification before you need capacity. Funds face an additional layer, and a regulated European crypto platform is built around it.
What this changes for treasury
Previously, holding a fiat balance with a provider was necessary because withdrawal took days. Now, for European settlement, it is optional.
That matters because a fiat balance with a provider is a credit exposure to that provider. If settlement is genuinely instant, the balance can be moved out continuously rather than swept weekly.
Worth reviewing if your process was designed around slower rails.
Questions for a provider
Are you connected to the instant euro scheme, directly or through a partner.
Which currencies can you settle in, and which require a conversion.
What are your cut-off times for currencies outside the instant scheme.
What is the first payout verification process and how long does it take.
The remaining trap
A provider advertising instant settlement may mean instant to your balance with them, not instant to your bank.
The distinction matters entirely. Ask specifically whether funds reach an external bank account in seconds, and in which currencies. On the trading side, a regulated European crypto platform publishes its fee schedule and corporate onboarding terms in full.
